Lots of speakers today are presenting from their phone, reading their presentation from a mobile phone.
Here is why it is a good idea…
- You can avoid eye contact with your audience
- You can check your WhatsApp messages mid-speech
- You can watch a random YouTube video at the same time
- You don’t need to carry heavy paper notes around
Now, here are the reasons why you might not want to do it.
- You will lose eye contact with your audience
- The small text can make it difficult to read in the moment
- Your voice will be projected downwards
- You will need to scroll
- One wrong touch on the screen and you could lose your place
- And you will need to scroll furiously to find it again
- You could receive a call or message mid-speech
- Your battery could die
- A loss of signal in a busy conference hall can mean your document isn’t accessible
If you want to deliver a strong presentation, avoid presenting from your phone wherever possible.
In short, I encourage you in the strongest possible terms not to do it!
Even if you see other speakers trying it.
Please resist…
