The Warm Water Advantage

Why a simple pre-presentation habit can improve your speaking voice.

Want a simple way to improve your speaking voice?

Sip some warm water.

It sounds almost too simple.

In fact, it’s so simple that I often forget to do it myself.

Sometimes there isn’t any available.

Sometimes I end up drinking coffee instead.

Sometimes I choose iced water, which can tighten the vocal chords.

How Warm Water Can Improve Your Speaking Voice

While working in Hong Kong recently, I noticed a client who consistently gets this right.

At the entrance to the seminar room were several large jugs filled with warm water.

Everyone drank some before we began.

During the first practical exercise, the average voice quality of the participants was noticeably better than the group I had worked with the previous day.

  • Different client
  • Different location
  • Same training

It was a simple reminder that small habits can help improve your speaking voice before an important presentation.

And it wasn’t a one-off.

I have seen the same effect every time I work there.

Warm water is not a miracle cure.

If you are looking for a simple way to improve your speaking voice, warm water is worth trying.

A small sip might make a bigger difference than you think.
