Things will go wrong sometimes when you present.
Do not allow them to blow you off course.
I saw a great example of this while running a seminar for a client recently.
The speaker was using ClickShare to get their slides on the screen.
He put the ClickShare device into his laptop.
Nothing really happened – the screen remained blank.
He tried again.
Same result.
But he refused to panic.
“Please talk amongst yourselves – we will be ready to go in a minute.”
He had a third ClickShare attempt, to no avail.
There was just a whirring circle of doom on his laptop.
“Not to worry, I will do this without the slides.”
He looked relaxed and just went for it.
After a few moments, the audience forgot about the IT issue and listened attentively.
The presentation was going well.
And then one brilliant thing happened.
About two thirds of the way through, a slide suddenly appeared on the screen.
He seamlessly moved into the information on the screen.
“And as you can see from this table on the slide – the projections are moving in a healthy direction, year-on-year.”
Impressive.
Now, there was a stroke of luck with the timing but he certainly deserved some luck.
Things will go wrong.
If this happens to you in future.
Remember…
- Don’t allow anything to blow you off course
- Find Plan B and go for it
You will earn the respect of the audience.
And sometimes you’ll get that diamond moment.
