There had been eight presentations at the conference so far.
All of them had used PowerPoint.
Some had decent slides, others did not.
Speaker nine started in the same vein.
But then something changed – they switched to a flipchart.
Suddenly, the audience woke up and really focused on the speaker’s messages.
- The speaker was not great at drawing
- The diagram could easily have been shown on a slide
- And they looked at the flipchart a little too much when speaking
But none of that mattered.
They were doing something different and that alone created a noticeable lift in the room.
The audience also got to watch an idea take shape in real time, which added freshness and immediacy.
Later speakers reverted to slides, just like the first eight.
Which meant the ninth speaker stayed memorable.
There may be a moment in your next talk where you can change things up too.
If so, give it a try.
A small shift can create a big impact – for you and your audience.
