The Power of Being First to Know

Why exclusive information makes presentations more valuable and memorable.

Your audience in a presentation wants to feel special.

One simply way to achieve this is by sharing fresh information in presentations.

It does not need to be a major announcement.

Nor does it need to be headline news.

It simply needs to be something unique to that time and place.

Something they would not hear anywhere else at that moment.

That way, attending the presentation feels worthwhile.

Why Fresh Information in Presentations Matters

Here are a few examples I have heard in recent months:

  • A speaker about to announce the results of a survey involving 2,000 stakeholders
  • A conference host revealing how much money had been raised for charity and how much was still needed to hit the target
  • A lawyer explaining the implications of a recent Supreme Court decision
  • A CEO announcing whether the organisation had achieved B-Corp status

In each case, the audience received fresh information in presentations that they could not access elsewhere at that moment.

That made the presentation feel more relevant and worthwhile.

Before your next presentation, ask yourself:

What is my audience hearing from me that they cannot hear elsewhere?

It doesn’t need to be a major revelation.

Even small pieces of fresh information in presentations can have a powerful impact.

People value what feels current, relevant, and exclusive. Give them something fresh, and you give them another reason to listen.
