Avoid Presentation Bribery

This week we’re covering the topic of presentation bribery and how you should avoid it at all costs. Read on to find out more…

“Good afternoon and thanks for joining my webinar. If you stay with me all the way to the very end, I have a reward for you – a copy of my slides”.

Aaaarrrgggghhhh!!!!

Please do not do this.

Avoid presentation bribery at all costs.

I get the theory behind it – the speaker hopes everyone will stay to the end and listen carefully too.

However, when the audience hears this, what happens inside their heads is a little voice saying something like the following…

I’m not sure if this is going to be any good…

I’m not sure if the speaker thinks this will be any good…

Why is the speaker kind of bribing me and the bribe is not actually that good anyway…

Do I really need to stay to the end…

I might stay logged in to get the slides but I will focus on other tasks…

The last one happens a lot – I have observed a number of presentations in the past where some audience members forgot to turn off their cameras.

They tapped on their keyboards; they got cups of coffee and they made phone calls.

And because it was a webinar platform instead of a meeting , there was no way of telling them!

Instead of pleading or bribing the audience to stick with you.

Work on packing value into the early part of the presentation and throughout the presentation.

This will keep them with you more than any gimmick.

Do not make the audience listen to you.

Do not make the audience pretend they are listening to you.

Make them WANT to listen to you.

If there is real value and substance in your presentation, you do not need to resort to tricks in order to hold their attention.

Provide value.

Provide value early.

Provide value early and often.
