Slow Down Your Closing

Why rushing your final moments can cost your engagement and what to do instead.

The exhibition speaker yesterday really should have improved their presentation closing remarks.

They delivered his closing at warp speed:

“Scan the QR code on the slide.”
“Go to our website.”
“There’s another product I should have mentioned…”
“Ask any questions now.”
“Have you enjoyed the presentation?”
“Come to our stand in the main exhibition hall.”
“I can stay behind and talk with anyone who is interested.”

He covered all of that – and more – in a matter of seconds.

A few well-placed pauses in their closing remarks would have helped.

(It would still have been a weak close, but pausing could have salvaged something.)

Why Presentation Closing Remarks Matters

A pause when the QR code appeared?
Some people might have scanned it.

A pause after inviting questions?
People might have responded.

Instead, everything passed by too quickly.

In the end, nobody stayed behind.
And I suspect nobody was convinced to visit the stand.

The whole purpose of the slot was to generate engagement.

It didn’t happen.

There is a clear lesson here.

Have a look at your own closing remarks.

Where could a pause help?

Knowing how to improve your presentation closing remarks can make the difference between engagement and silence.

Find one or two places.

And use them.

This is one example of where pausing works – why not check out: When to Pause in a Presentation – for another.
