I’ve seen a lot of virtual presentations already in 2025.
In the ones I have observed, there is one simple thing that almost every good presenter did.
Yet very few of the weaker presenters did it.
Do this one thing to boost your odds.
What is it?
For the stronger presentations, the speaker simply spoke for a minute or so before sharing their slides on the screen.
In the first minute, they had no visuals.
The audience got a chance to see the speaker properly.
This aids with the connection between the speaker and audience.
The less successful presentations either had the slides up from the very beginning or did the screenshare after a few seconds.
Either way, an opportunity to connect with the audience was lost.
Now clearly not every virtual presentation will be a success purely because you delay the screenshare.
Nor will it necessarily fail because you put the slides up right away.
But there is a surprisingly close connection between the two.
When we help clients with their virtual presentations here at Speak With Impact, we always get them used to speaking first before being allowed to share their slides.
As speakers online, we need every advantage we can get.
So, remember next time you are presenting virtually to…
- Connect
- Engage
- Then share
In other words – Speak first, share later.
