Presentation Preparation Quote

When you do presentation preparation, there is a multitude of things you need to take into account. Clearly there are too many things to cover in a single blog post, so I will focus on a single one.

Ask yourself this next time you do your presentation preparation – what will they remember about my content the next day? What about the next week or month? What about the next year?

Find a powerful answer to this question and sometimes they will remember parts of your presentation a decade later. Let me share an example.

The speaker on one of my Speak With Impact courses used a quote that made an instant impact on me.

Not only was there an instant impact but years later, it has stuck with me.

In one exercise he was talking about the importance of health and wellbeing. He was a keen cyclist. The presentation, at one point, focussed on why he always cycled to work.

He was already convincing the group, and then he landed the quote. What was it?

“Riding a bicycle each day adds years to my life. But more importantly, it adds life to my years.”

Boom! He had us in the palm of his hand for the rest of the talk.

And it has stuck with me ever since but I learned recently that it stuck with others too.

I had a call last week with another person who had attended the course that day.

The cycling quote was one of the first things he brought up.

So, my advice is to build into your presentation preparation some time where you focus on what content could really make a lasting impression. This rarely happens by accident. It happens because the speaker has thought about it carefully.

Have a look over all your messages for your next presentation.

And ask yourself this question…

What is the thing they are going to remember years later?
